Chris Gehring is currently Professor of Plant Science at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a new research University on the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia, where he leads a research group in molecular systems responses to stress. His research group makes use of both computational and high through-put technologies and in particular proteomics and phospho-proteomics to study responses to abiotic and biotic stress. Prof. Gehring graduated with a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of London (1981) and subsequently joined La Sapienza (University of Rome) as an EMBO fellow. Between 1988 – 2000 he worked at La Trobe and Deakin University before taking up a chair in Biotechnology at the University of the Western Cape, in Cape Town (South Africa). He also has longstanding international collaborations with several research groups working on molecular stress responses in plants notably in Australia and Europe.
